The archtypal late period shoe, the German Swiss Kuhmaul, also called the Bear Paw or Cow Mouth shoe has the square toe with "Slashes" in the leather revealing a contrasting color underneath. A favorite shoe of German mercenaries from the late 15th and into the 16th centuries, as well as English and French nobility.
Made with the same quality we put into out other shoes, we can say with confidence that they hold up under great duress, keep their shape, and provide a sturdy sole making them perfect for Renaissance Faires and other outdoor events, while still being sharp enough for those indoor court events. You might find "similar" shoes manufactured--at a very similar or higher price--but our leather is of the highest grade, selected to maintain shape.
These shoes, based on extensive portraiture and surviving examples, have been crafted to with an eye for detail. Reinforcement around the top and opening, ours are constructed for sturdy wear and are available in full sizes from Ladies 5 - 10 and Men's 6 to 14 in 3 slash solid black uppers or 5 slash color contrasting reinforcing.

These shoes will last well and are very close in terms of correct appearance and can accomodate a wide variety of foot widths. Shoes run a bit narrow. If your feet are wide you may wish to go up one size. Unlike turn-shoes, they can be repaired when they finally need it at any regular shoe-repair house.
Inset colors subject to availability. While we will make every effort to send you your first choice of colors, other colors may be substituted when first choice not available.
